Was ist ein UNESCO Global Geopark
UNESCO-GEBIETSBEZEICHNUNGEN
Die UNESCO, die Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur, zeichnet weltweit Gebiete mit besonderem und wertvollem Natur- und/oder Kulturerbe aus.
Zuerst wurden 1971 die Biosphärenreservate („Man and the Biosphere“-Programme) ins Leben gerufen15. Es folgte die Welterbeliste („World Heritage List“) im Jahr 19724. Viele Jahre später, erst 2015, erhielt auch das geologische Naturerbe eine eigene Auszeichnung durch die Einrichtung der UNESCO Global Geoparks.
