Conglomerate

Conglomerate

Kåre Conglomerate is made up of many different small stones. They have been cemented together with even finer-grained material.

You’ll recognize me when you see me. Did you think I was a piece of cast concrete from a pier or something? Because I’m not; I was once part of a riverbed. Water flowed over me, and I was a mix of pebbles and sand. It was nice, because every now and then a new little stone would be carried by the water and mix in with what was already there. And all the stones could tell a little about where they came from.

But things changed over time; all my little building blocks were buried under more stones. It got more and more crowded, and sand and gravel stuck together. Just like with Sara Sandstone, I became solid rock over time.

Some say I come from Skien, from Jarseng or somewhere around there. I don’t really know-could be. All I know is that the land around me has changed a lot during the 3–400 million years I’ve been here. But one day, I was picked up by the ice and left here all by myself, where you found me. Not the worst place to settle down, is it?
