THE GEOPARK'S GEOLOGICAL HISTORY

Nature's history book lies far outside of the living room door, and in order to read and understand the story, one needs some background knowledge. The Geopark's geology tells an exciting story that spans a period of 1500 millions years.

Ice Ages

The landscape we see today was shaped by glaciers, and the soil we live on and cultivate was formed during and after the last Ice Age.

Grenlands geology

In Grenland, there are rocks from several important periods in Norway’s geological history

Larvikite

Larvikite is well known throughout the world, as it is a very popular ornamental exterior stone used in building facades

Rhomb Porphyry

The rhomb porphyries were lavas that flowed out nearly 300 million years ago and covered the area from Skien to Mjøsa

The Fen Complex

The spesial geological area called the Fen Complex is located in Nome municipality, Southeast of Ulefoss.
